Backup Smart Upgrade v1.56

Another upgrade to Backup Smart is available.

This one includes …

1) Fix for including some extra error messages into scheduler email

2) Fixes to French language (thank you Hubert Daul for your great work with helping to translate my terrible French)

3) Tasks now save by task name rather than domain name

Having tasks save to the HDD by task name rather than domain name is important for users with multiple tasks on the same server and also users that use HTTPS (secure connection) to access their cPanel control panel.

Users on shared hosting that wish to use the hosting providers shared SSL certificate can now do so.

For example, your domain name is widgets.com but your hosting provider forces you through https://myhostingprovider.com to access your cPanel

So your task name would be widgets.com and your domain name would be myhostingprovider.com

Now Backup Smart saves by the task name (which can be anything that enter in) rather than the domain name. This may be the same for multiple accounts which is why using the domain name to file the accounts on the HDD had to be changed.

Backup Smart will of course as you to update when you next start it up.

As per usual, any issues and just drop in a support ticket online.

Backup Smart upgrade – Now with more features

Finally I can formally release the Backup Smart (website backup application) upgrades that have been in the works for a long time.

Those that own the software get all updates for FREE.

Thanks to users who have given feedback and requests. These updates have made Backup Smart a much better application.

I’d like to thank these users specifically for taking the time to check over my translations into languages other than English.

Hubert Daul – French translation checking
Matthias Günter – German translation checking
George Johnston – Spanish translation checking
Pieter de Jong – Dutch translation checking

There have been several minor updates lately with this final update seeing the latest round of changes complete.

Here’s what was added up to version 1.52…

* Multilanguage support. Now supports English, French, German, Chinese, Spanish, Dutch. This was a massive structural change to enable different languages but one that makes Backup Smart so much more accessible.

If you want a language supported and are prepared to check my translations then let me know. Or if you see any text that doesn’t make sense, please contact me.

* Better checking of task list changes, and reminding you to save your task list externally so you don’t lose your changes if something goes wrong

* Wider cPanel support to work in with new cPanel security features.

* Added Host Monster support since they have a highly customised cPanel setup

* Added in ability to handle users with global subdomains setup in cPanel.

* Added in support for SSL HTTPS ability. Some host enforce HTTPS for cPanel logins.

For those that haven’t checked out Backup Smart yet, go and grab yourself a FREE 7 day trial of the software.

For those that own a copy of Backup-Smart just restart the software and it should self update, or use the update option in the help menu.

Let me know your thoughts on the upgrades, or if you want something else added to / changed in the software.

Website Backup Software Upgrade Adds More Features

Backup Smart BoxAt the request of users over the last couple of months, several new features have been added to Backup Smart – the cPanel website backup software application.

Those that own the software get all updates for FREE.

Here’s what was added in version 1.26…

* A very handy option to only include in the scheduled backup logs those sites that failed their backups. So for those with lots of websites they can quickly see if anything failed which needs their attention.

* Added a minimize on startup feature (in settings menu) – Backup Smart always had the option to start on system startup, but now it can minimise as well.

* Added ability to bulk import tasks from a CSV file. This is mainly for power users. Instead of creating tasks from scratch for many websites, you can now load all the data into a CSV spreadsheet and then import it straight into Backup Smart.

For those that haven’t checked out Backup Smart yet, go and grab yourself a FREE 7 day trial of the software.

For those that own a copy of Backup-Smart just restart the software and it should self update.

New cPanel Website Backup Software

Do you backup your website(s)? Ever?

I know I didn’t which is the main reason I developed this software. You see I have a lot of websites and look after even more for other people.

Backing up your websites has always had 2 draw backs.

1) You have to remember to do it.
2) You have to have a lot of time to do it since it’s a very manual process.

My new software solves both of those draw backs for those of you lucky enough to have your web hosting on a cPanel web server.

Let me first tell you how to backup your website using cPanel.

a) Go to your http://website.com:2082 and enter in your credentials.
b) Go to the Backup icon (will look different depending on your theme)
c) Click on the link to download the home directory backup (this will take all your files)
d) Click on the links to download your databases
e) Click on the links to download your email filters or email aliases

Now you can do all that or you can set it up in Backup Smart and it will do it all for you on a schedule that you set. Couldn’t be simpler.

Plus it runs on Windows, MAC OSX and even Linux by running under Adobe AIR (which is a new cross platform application environment)

Have a look at this promo video I made for the software.

If you think it’s something that you could use, I have a 7 day free trial for it, and if you read this post prior to 02Feb09 then you can get an early bird special offer of just $7 which is a saving of $30 off the $37 price tag that I’ll be selling this for.
